Over the last few years, vinyl flooring has seen unprecedented growth in the commercial flooring industry. While it continues to grow and adapt as we progress, one subset of this product is making huge waves across the globe – EVP flooring.

What is EVP Flooring?

An acronym for Engineered Vinyl Planks, EVP flooring is a vinyl-based floor product that’s designed to mimic hard floor flooring materials such as hardwood and stone. With its ease of installation, durability, and natural-looking design, it is one of the most popular flooring options.

What is it Made Of?

EVP flooring features the following four layers:

The Wear Layer

This is a clear topcoat on the decorative layer to protect from marks, scratches, spills, scuffs, and anything else. The thicker this layer, the costlier the EVP flooring. If you have large foot traffic, it is best to pay attention to the level of thickness you need.

The Decorative Layer

This layer is where your personal preferences appear from stone décor to wooden resemblances. Some manufacturers can even create realistic-looking 3D images to resemble ceramic, tile, or marble flooring

The Core Layer

EVP flooring uses a rigid stone-based core that helps in hiding subfloor imperfections and creates stability and structure. It also has waterproofing capabilities and is known for making the flooring extremely durable.

The Backing Layer

This is the last layer of EVP flooring that acts as an intermediary between the subfloor and the core of the EVP. You get improved underfoot cushioning through the underlayment. Usually, a thick layer of rubber or cord is found on each board’s bottom.

What are the Features of EVP Flooring?

Ease of Installation

Typically, EVP planks come with a tongue-and-groove locking mechanism which makes them ideal for DIY installations. Unlike laminate flooring, EVP floorboards don't need acclimation and you can install them straight from the shop.

Budget-friendly

On average, EVP planks cost between ₹40-₹180 per square meter based on the material used. They are a highly economical option compared to traditional stone flooring and hardwood options. Plus, they are a durable alternative normally requiring no replacement which helps you save more in the long run. What’s not to like?

Moisture-resistant

If you want a wood flooring look minus the damages that water can do to it, EVP planks perfectly fit the bill. The multi-layered planks are completely waterproof and prevent moisture from seeping into the subfloor to cause any structural damage.

Flexible

When it comes to durable vinyl flooring options, EVP is the most flexible of the lot. Whether you are looking to install it over plywood, concrete or tile, you can.

Minimal Maintenance

EVP comes with excellent plastic protective covers that can be easily cleaned and maintained. All you have to do is simply sweep the floor and use a wet mop to clean it.

Soundproof

EVP flooring is quiet to walk on as it is made from rigid cores built using limestone or wood composites.

When choosing flooring options, it can be quite daunting to settle on a material that offers both quality and reasonable cost. EVP flooring strikes the right balance between visually appealing looks and affordability. It is durable, moisture-resistant, and requires minimal maintenance.
